The Timber Lake Trail departs from a trailhead on Trial Ridge Road in the park. The trailhead is the third one on the right after
you enter the park (about 12 miles in). It's almost directly across from the Colorado River Trail trailhead. The route goes through both forest and
meadow land and eventually arrives at Timber Lake. Along the way there are several nice aspen groves and meadows. At about three
miles there is a junction with an unmaintained trail that leads to Long Meadow. This unmaintained section of trail is only .7 mile
and in rather good shape. This side trip to Long Meadow is worth the effort. Long Meadow is beautiful and in the summer, there are
ponds near the top where Indian Pond Lilies grow.
