The Shadow Mountain (Lookout) Trail is reached from either Grand Lake or the Shadow Mountain Dam via the East shore Trail. From the dam,
head north on the East Inlet Trail for about 2 ½ miles to the signed trail to the old fire lookout. This trail is probably best in the
spring or fall. The views from the old fire tower at the end of the trail are what make this a worthwhile hike. There are 360 degrees
of view that include: Grand Lake, shadow Mountain Lake, Lake Granby, and Rocky Mountain National Park. This is one of Four
(the others being the East Inlet Trail, East Shore Trail, and Tonahutu Trail) trails in the park that can be used without paying a fee.
